Otto de VriesCEO, Association of Southern African Travel Agents (ASATA)

Past Chairman of the World Travel Agents Association Alliance (WTAAA) and a Board member of the Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA). He has been active in the travel industry for 32 years, 22 of those in senior management roles in the inbound, retail and wholesale sectors. He is a WTAAA delegate to the IATA Passenger Agency Global Joint Council (PAPGJC) and currently Chairs the WTAAA Air Committee. Through the Council he has participated on a number of sub-committees, including the steering group on NDC Thought Leadership, the Transparency in Payment Advisory Group and the IATA ADM Working Group and the committee focusing on the governance of the agency programme. Through the TBCSA he has worked on several committees that focused on the Tourism Sector Code amendments that focuses on transformation; amendments to the South African Immigration Act and the Market Access/ Regulatory Environment Working Committee of the Department of Tourism. During Covid-19 Otto has actively participated in lobbying the South African government on the re-opening of travel, both domestically and internationally; including the development of health protocols and marketing strategies. He has also actively lobbied IATA and airlines to deliver on their refund commitments and to change resolutions that are intended to deliver a more balanced Travel Agency Programme.

Dave Hilfman was appointed as the interim executive director of the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) in July 2020. This followed his retirement in December 2018 from a 37 year career in the airline industry. Dave served as senior vice president of Worldwide Sales for both United Airlines and Continental Airlines over a 14 year period. The merger between Continental and United in 2010 created the world’s largest airline in terms of passenger revenue. Hilfman is credited with helping unify the two cultures with his honest, progressive and affable leadership style and for leading the team to record breaking commercial success over his eight years at the new United.

Prior to joining G Adventures, David spent six years at STA Travel where he worked his way up to managing director for the company’s Australian operations before leading the sales team at Australia's largest independent travel agency, Helloworld Travel.
